I think Sandhill Cranes are the coolest! I even named my business after them and assumed Sandhill as part of my name.
When we were preparing for me to quit my day job and start Something? Designs, we couldn’t find a name that felt right.
One day a nice lady walks in to Shulla Woodcrafts and asks if we make beds. Joe told her “No, but I have an employee who might be willing to help you.” We arrange to meet and I get my first commission.
On the way to meet the nice lady a pair of Sandhill Cranes flew over the highway in front of me. On the way to buy the wood and on the way to make the delivery, every time I went some place for this project I would see a pair of cranes. Well you don’t have to beat me over the head for me to get the obvious message. That’s the rest of the story .
Since the early days in Morrisonville there has always been a breeding pair near my shop. I still thrill at the prehistoric sound of the flight call and can’t wait to see them this spring.
You can see Wendy’s most recent charcoal drawing of our times in Morrisonville and the beginning of Sandhill Designs at our river themed art show at the Octagon Gallery in Westfield, New York. I hope you can join Wendy and me for the opening night of Current April 20th from 7 to 9 pm.
